RECORD BREAKING TIME in this year’s 10k Run event.
Spurred on by the stirring pre-race words of Alex Salmond, our First Minister, NICOLA GAULD took the race by storm and crossed the finish line in an amazing record-breaking time of 33 mins and 58 secs.
Over 500 runners, a record for the event, converged on the Garioch Sports Centre from all parts of the country to participate in this year’s highly popular and high profile 10k Run event.
The runners enjoyed excellent weather conditions and the many spectators got into the mood by cheering and encouraging the runners as they crossed the finish line, some runners at full speed, others putting in a tremendous last gasp Herculean effort to achieve their goal of finishing their first 10k race.
The Runs for children of both Primary and Secondary age – all started simultaneously – was also very popular and while running round Strathburn Park did not prove to be “mud-free”, it all added to the wonderful atmosphere, again with the spectators entering into the spirit of the occasion by cheering on the youngsters as they ran towards the finish line.
This year’s event is now over but don’t let it stop you continuing to run. Quite the reverse. Build on this race, keep running, keep fit and we will welcome you back for next year’s event which we will aim to be even bigger and better. Well done to all runners.
